Change game type while in lobby
The idea I have is fairly general here, I just want to be able to change game types while in the lobby. For example, in a 1v1 with a friend, and want to 2v2. Click where it says 1 vs 1 and make it a 2v2 and then just team with your friend. Let me know what you think.

I think this is a very good idea if you forgot to have more room.

RE: Change game type while in lobby
You could make it that you are only be able to do that if you make the game private. I'm not really sure how it would work, but someone might join while you're changing a 2v2 to a 1v1 or something and you have 3 players.

I was thinking about that, maybe make it to where you can pre-set teams with the person you are beforehand, so no one steals it. For example. you and I are in 1v1, and want to go to 2v2, but want to be teamed, we select beforehand, somewhere near the 1 vs 1 button or something, that in case of team switch, go to color whatever. Then just select like red, then when I make it 2v2 you automatically go red along with your teammate. ![]() ![]() ![]() It's not that I fear in my own self-confidence, it's that the others fear in it. ![]() |

RE: Change game type while in lobby
It's not that hard to create a new game with your desired settings/mode (something similar to this has been suggested before, if I'm not mistaken). All it takes is a few extra seconds to create it, again.
If you're playing with someone you'd like to team with, then that's easy too. Chances are that they're on your friend list or in chat with you, so you set the game to private and bring them in before anyone else joins. After that, you make it public to fill it and start. If they're not on the list or in chat, then bring them to your chat if only to get them in your game. Finally, if there's no other option available, then you tell them what the exact settings will be and have them constantly refresh that game mode until they see your name. A change like this would be very difficult to implement and would ultimately cause more problems and bugs than what people currently experience. ![]() |

RE: Change game type while in lobby
There are two problems here. Both of them can be hard to fix.
1) Switching from larger games to smaller ones when there are too many slots filled. You have an excess of players in the game that you have no way of handling. For instance: switching from a 2v2 to a 1v1 when there's three players in. 2) Switching from 3v3 to 2v2v2 when three people are in the same team. You now have invalid teams, since there is a team that is too large. This is how I used to handle this situation: one of us creates a new game, sets it to private, and sends the join code somehow to the other person. Once they join, set the game to public. It honestly works, although you need some other channel of communication for sending the code. |
